Class 1 MELT program set by: Alberta Transportation
15-day course excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays
8:00 am – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
MELT Course Includes:
- 40.5 hours of classroom training
- 15.5 hours of in-yard training
- 18 hours of off-road maneuvers training
- 39 hours of in truck driver training
- Students must have a full Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License to start the program.
- Students must have a passed Driver’s Class 1 Medical before starting the program.
- Airbrakes Course must be taken before training begins. Cost for the Airbrakes Course is $250.00 and is 1-day 8:00am – 5:30 pm
- Students must pass a Class 1 Knowledge Test at a Registries office after the classroom portion of the program before a Road Test can be confirmed.
- Mandatory attendance is required to complete the program in the dates you have chosen to attend.
Cost for this program is $10,000.00 with a non-refundable deposit of $2000 due at time of booking. Total payment must be paid 1-month prior to course start date or Start-Rite reserves the right to pull the student from the Course. There is a $300 fee for the use of our truck you trained in for your road test. Training hours over and above the allotted time is $150 per hour.
Separate costs paid by the student include:
- Road Test Permit $217
- Road Test Truck Time Fee $300
- Drivers Class 1 Medical
- Airbrakes at Start-Rite
- MELT Knowledge Test and Airbrakes Knowledge Test at a Registries Office $17.60 per test
